DOOM 64 Port To Feature New Chapter

It’s a hell of a day for fans of DOOM. There was the DOOMicorn reveal earlier today, and something cool about the soundtrack coming later. As for now, we’re here to talk about the new DOOM 64 port. If you weren’t aware, DOOM 64 is being released as a pre-order bonus for DOOM Eternal. Originally released for the (shocker) Nintendo 64, DOOM 64 is often overlooked in the larger DOOM lineage. The developer behind the port, Nightdive Studio, is looking to change that.

In an interview with USGamer, Nightdive senior developer James Hanley stated that the port will contain a new chapter. Continuing where the story of DOOM 64 left off, this chapter will pit the Doom Slayer against the Mother Demon’s sister. Her plan to deal with you is to just kick you out of hell, which predictably makes the Doom Slayer angry. You’ll have to fight your way BACK to hell to take your revenge. Haley states, “If you can make your way back and take revenge, you’ll be rewarded with a bit of lore that fans of both series, new and classic, should enjoy.”

It’s always cool to see a port get a little something spicy for the fans. There’s been a lovely trend lately of making new games in old engines, and DOOM 64 is a prime candidate for expansion. If you want to learn more about DOOM 64, you can check it out here on Steam. It releases on March 20th, alongside DOOM Eternal.
