Antichrist Staying As-Is for UK Release

I guess we'll see soon enough what cuts, if any, Lars von Trier's controversial Antichrist will endure upon its US release. In the meantime, however, it warmed my heart to learn that British censors are allowing UK distributor Artificial Eye to release the movie as-is with an "18" certificate.

Cannes 2009 has come to an end, and we're happy to report that a few horror offerings won awards, most notably Antichrist's Charlotte Gainsborough, who was dubbed Best Actress at the fest.

IFC Takes On Antichrist

Well, no one can accuse IFC Films of being unwilling to promote controversial properties. This morning the company announced it is picking up Lars von Trier's Antichrist, which has without a doubt been the most talked about movie at this year's Cannes Film Festival.

Von Trier's Antichrist in Post; More Plot Details!

While doing a random check on the status of Lars von Trier’s Antichrist, we came across some intel that the film is now in post production and eyeballing a release date of September 11th, 2009, though it’s not clear if that’s in the U.S. or von Trier’s native Denmark.

Dafoe & Gainsbourg Join Antichrist

Finally, some casting has taken place for Lars Von Trier’s long-gestating Anitchrist, and it’s good enough to make it more than worth the wait. Variety reports that Willem Dafoe (pictured) and Charlotte Gainsbourg (I’m Not There) have signed on for the film.

    Von Trier's Antichrist Shoots in Summer!

    The news/rumors about Lars Von Trier's Antichrist project have been coming and going for about two years now with no real solid evidence that the film would ever enter production (“The Antichrist to Rise?” – December 2007). Usually any news about it would be met with a grain of salt, but this time there's actually something to smile about.

    Who really created the Earth? Some say God, others blame our existance on science. Personally, I think it all falls on the shoulders of the red bastard, Satan. Obviously Dogville director Lars von Trier feels the same way.
