Genre marketer Fourth Castle Media and talent management/production company Invalesco Entertainment announce the creation of Thingmaker Entertainment, a microbudget monster movie production and distribution label. Read on for the details!

The announcement comes during this weekend’s Son of Monsterpalooza, a popular Los Angeles convention for fans of old school monsters and practical special effects. Invalesco’s M. Dal Walton, a seasoned film executive with credits such as Rambo, Narc, and the remakes of The Wicker Man and Day of the Dead, says of the new company: “New technologies for production and distribution have made it viable to create new genre movies specifically for their fans without watering down the experience by trying to be all things to all people. Thingmaker Entertainment will produce and distribute movies for fans of the z-grade, zero-budget drive-in monster movie classics of yesteryear. Our focus will be on the monster: creative, exciting, and well executed.”

At Monsterpalooza, Walton and Fourth Castle President Joe Sena are releasing the names and key art of five titles from the initial slate of twelve movies. Those titles are:

• SHEDRA: A diet supplement made from snake venom extract turns women into reptilian, acid-spitting creatures who devour their mates.
• LARVA: Toxic waste dumped at an old cemetery mutates worms into giant man-eating creatures.
• ATTACK OF THE GIANT MUTANT SCORPION FROM HELL: A group of extreme sports enthusiasts at a desert event are attacked by the title creature.
• FLESH EATER FROM OUTER SPACE: The familiar story of a monster crashing to earth in a meteor gets a modern twist when the creature’s secret is revealed.
• 1775: The Founding Fathers face off against an alien invasion, but not the Redcoat kind (check out a short video teaser shot specifically for the convention below).

“These are monster movies for monster fans,” says Sena. “They’ll all be practical where possible, with memorable creature design and lots of eye-popping gore.”

The films are slated to begin their domestic theatrical run in 2013. “These films are meant to be seen with an audience of like-minded fans,” Sena continues. “The lion’s share of the budget will be on the monsters, so all the other trappings of classic z-grade films will definitely be apparent. It takes a special kind of fan to appreciate that.”

“Independent theater owners have been hit hard the last few years,” adds Walton, “so we aim to give them consistent entertainment for their core attendees – true movie fans – who will buy tickets, spend at the concession counter, and come back again and again.” Thingmaker Entertainment will participate with theater owners in “old school” marketing and promotional activities specifically tailored for the monster movie fan.

This sounds right up our alley so look for lots more soon! In the meantime dig on these awesome posters.
