Around August or so there were rumors that Matthew McConaughey was being considered (and rightly so) to take on the part of the nefarious Randall Flagg in the upcoming big screen version of Stephen King’s The Stand. Today the actor is a bit closer to accepting the role…

That is, if this latest news from The Guardian is to be believed. According to the site, things are definitely swinging in that direction, and we hope that they will continue doing so. Right now, though? Let’s file this one under continued rumor.

Josh Boone’s upcoming big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s 1978 novel The Stand will come to the screen in four parts.

The Stand is a story of good vs. evil after a virus wipes out most of the American population. It features dozens of characters (including such memorable ones as the Trashcan Man and Mother Abigail) and overlapping storylines running over many years as it tells of a group of survivors fighting the Antichrist-like Randall Flagg.
