The Death Note Trailer Has Arrived

After what feels like an eternity, a trailer for Adam Wingard’s live-action Death Note adaptation has arrived and it looks pretty damn solid! The trailer introduces us to Nat Wolff’s Light Turner, a high school student who finds a book that allows him to kill anyone whose name he writes within its pages. From there, we get glimpses of the devastation that it can cause, including a Final Destination-esque moment on a Ferris wheel. We also get a blurry look at Ryuk, the Shinigami that is voiced by Willem Dafoe.

Willem Dafoe and Nat Wolff star alongside Margaret Qualley, Keith Stanfield, Paul Nakauchi, and Shea Whigham. Roy Lee (The Ring) and Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes) are producing Death Note with Jason Hoffs and Masi Oka. Jonathan Eirich and John Powers Middleton are executive producing with Miri Yoon and Brendan Ferguson.

Based on the famous Japanese manga written by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, Death Note follows a high school student (Wolff) who comes across a supernatural notebook that gives him the ability to kill anyone by writing their name while picturing their face. Drunk on power, he begins to kill those he deems unworthy of life.

Death Note comes to Netflix on August 25th.
