Stop The Presses: James Patterson Cancels His Murder of Stephen King Novel

Brad who? Angelina whatever? Two more huge celebrities are currently in the midst of a bitter feud, and although it sure ain’t a divorce, it’s just as ugly.
Author James Patterson, who has over 250 million book sales to his name, recently announced that he was working on a new novel called The Murder of Stephen King, which, as its name suggests, would have been been about the famous horror writer being hunted by an obsessive fan. All hope was not lost however, as a detective named (wait for it) Jamie Peterson was gong to step in and save the day. Subtlety eh?
The book would have been co-written by Derek Nikitas, as Patterson rarely writes his own stuff these days.
However, King, who has sold over 300 million books, has actually had to deal with obsessive fans in the past, including people who have disrupted him at his home. This seemed to be taken into account at the last minute, as a statement was released from Patterson via his publisher saying:
My book is a positive portrayal of a fictional character, and, spoiler alert, the main character is not actually murdered.
Nevertheless, I do not want to cause Stephen King or his family any discomfort. Out of respect for them, I have decided not to publish The Murder of Stephen King.
So yeah, it’s a tragic shame that this book, which sounded like it was going to be a complete masterpiece, will now never see the light of day. That was sarcasm in case you couldn’t tell.
In the past, King has been highly critical of Patterson, saying he’s a “terrible writer but he’s very successful”, whilst Patterson admits that the fact that King isn’t his biggest fan has never got under his skin. I personally have nothing Patterson, but writing a book centered around the attempted murder of a real-life individual just seem wrong on so many levels, so I hope this deters any idiots who were planning to do similar things in the future.
