Top 10 Horror Movies You Have to See in 2017

It seems 2016 is flying by at an alarming rate. It’s been a fair year for the genre so far, as we’ve seen a number of impressive indie films and foreign affairs land in our laps. The Conjuring 2 impressed on the big screen, as did 10 Cloverfield Lane, but commercial releases have been a tad underwhelming in 2016 for the most part.

The Boy, The Forest, and The Darkness were all borderline abysmal pictures. We’re hoping 2017 sees a change in the tide. There are certainly some promising flicks headed our way, but 10 of them really stand out.

Check out our recommendations below!

10) Resident Evil: The Final Chapter
The Resident Evil franchise has more than worn out its welcome. These films have also made a steady transformation from horror to outright science fiction. But Paul W.S. Anderson doesn’t have much interest in making too many more of these Resident Evil flicks, and we’re hoping that brings out the absolute best from everyone involved. The franchise started with a bang, and fingers are crossed that this one goes out with a bang as well.

9) Annabelle 2
After the first forgettable film, we probably shouldn’t care much for the Annabelle brand at all. However, director David F. Sandberg has an absurd wealth of promise, which completely changes the complexion of this one. Annabelle 2 stands to be one of those rarities that surpass the impressiveness (there wasn’t much of that in Annabelle, to be honest) of its predecessor.

8) Suspiria
The Suspiria remake, as far as we know, will hit the market next year. While this is sacred territory, Dario Argento’s classic has the potential to provide some amazing visuals, but perhaps more important is the new audience the flick will find. A great number of younger genre fans haven’t seen the 1977 rendition of this insane story, so perhaps the younger folks will feel compelled to check out the original… if Luca Guadagnino’s version proves entertaining, that is. This is a film that might just shine with someone like Tilda Swinton attached.

7) Death House
Who isn’t curious about “The Expendables of Horror?” Damn near every major genre figure or character actor is slated to appear in the film, and although the synopsis of the picture doesn’t really feel all too refreshing, the staggeringly long list of performers appearing in it could very well make up for any unoriginality or uninspired ideas. We all love to cheer for our favorites, and we’ll have the chance to do just that come 2017… in one single feature. Almost sounds too good to be true.

6) Chucky 7
There’s no telling what direction Don Mancini will take with the upcoming Chucky 7. Will he guide this piece down the comedic path, or will he stay true to the tone of the original film and Curse of Chucky? Many of us are certainly hoping for the latter, but the former won’t be much of a surprise given how many comedies exist in this franchise. Either way, Chucky is always a blast, and we’re eager to see what’s next for our favorite homicidal doll.
