Children are so beautiful, so sweet. They’re everything we love. They are what innocence is all about. Children are the very essence of our future and the apples of our eyes…
…and this very innocence folks is why kids are so damn creepy when portrayed as killers in horror movies.
When a writer of a horror movie takes a sweet innocent child and turns him or her into everything we are terrified of and more, the old “evil in the shape of a child” takes form, and it’s scary.
Children portrayed as cold-blooded murderers in a movie makes us no longer want to hear them crying in the middle of the night, especially if we don’t have a kid to begin with; and we start to think twice about watching our friends’ kids when they need a babysitter. I mean, just look what happened to Michael Myers’ sister.
Here are the Top 5 Horrible Children of Horror, still scaring me to this day:
Samara – The Ring (2002)
Samara’s story is actually a sad one. Samara was pushed down a well by her adoptive mother, Anna Morgan, spending seven days trying to escape. But she died on the seventh, using her Nensha powers (the ability to psychically “burn” images from one’s mind onto surfaces, or even into the minds of others) to make the tape, out of vengeance and a desire to be found. Sad, but I would have done the same thing.
Henry – The Good Son (1993)
Henry is a sick and twisted little shit who just wants to have fun. Only his fun isn’t what we’re used to. Mommy’s dead, and daddy doesn’t give a shit about him, so he’s got some acting out to do.
Regan – The Exorcist (1973)
Regan is an innocent 12-year-old girl whom the devil takes and tries to make her one of his own. Regan is the true meaning of what happens when you take an innocent and mix it with evil.
Rhoda – The Bad Seed (1956)
Rhoda was born evil and knew how to get her way from day one. So pretty with her blond pigtails and her sweet face, so tender, yet so conniving. I think we’ve all known a child like this at least once in our lives, and that is what makes her creepy. I always loved how Karma got Rhoda in the end though. Very satisfying.
Damien – The Omen (1976)
Damien. He was of the purest of evil and born of the devil. He was the anti-Christ. He was the worst of the worst of any child in any movie, and he still scares the shit out of me to this day. He is the reason I still don’t like to babysit other peoples kids.
