Edgar Wright Will Direct a New Version of Stephen King’s THE RUNNING MAN for Paramount

Fans of Stephen King and dystopian horror take note: We’re getting world that Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead) will be helming a new adaptation of The Running Man for Paramount. The Running Man was previously released as a feature film in 1987; that version was directed by Paul Michael Glaser and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Synopsis:
In the year 2019, America is a totalitarian state where the favorite television program is “The Running Man” — a game show in which prisoners must run to freedom to avoid a brutal death. Having been made a scapegoat by the government, an imprisoned Ben Richards (Arnold Schwarzenegger) has the opportunity to make it back to the outside again by being a contestant on the deadly show, although the twisted host, Damon Killian (Richard Dawson), has no intention of letting him escape.
Stephen King published The Running Man under his pseudonym, Richard Bachman, in 1982.
Of the upcoming iteration, Deadline reports:
This won’t be a remake of the 1987 film that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger; the Baby Driver writer/director will co-write the story with Michael Bacall, and they will be much more faithful to King’s bestselling novel. Bacall will write the script.
Obviously, this film is still in its infancy, so it’ll be a while before it comes to fruition. Still, we’ll be following the production like hawks to make sure we bring you all pertinent details as they emerge. Stay tuned and check back often!
